Most rats are satisfied with just getting a chance to explore other rooms of the house while some have enough courage and curiosity to take on more! If your rats first reaction to the outdoors looks uncomfortable or scared we recommend not taking them out as some are just not into it. For example, one of my rats loves when we go on walks in the backyard while my other rat refuses to even leave my room. All rats have different personalities that should be respected by us humans. If you rat is the adventurous type we recommend taking them to a safe and predictable place such as a backyard. There are just too many dangers in the public. Loud noises, cats, dogs, birds can all be a great threat to your precious little ratty. Here are a few tips every rat owner with a leash should follow!

  • Always make sure the leash fits properly and is secure.
  • Take a test run around the house and see how they respond.
  • Always be on the lookout for other animals.
  • Respect your rats fears and boundaries.
  • Have fun!
Luckily with our leash a trip to the backyard can be done very safely, and feel like the adventure of a lifetime for a rat! Try it out with your rats! Did I mention each purchase of a hammock comes with a free leash? All you have to do is add both hammock and leash to cart then enter “Bogo” at checkout :) What's to lose?
